Global programs

The Dado and Maria Banatao Center for Global Learning and Outreach from Berkeley Engineering (GLOBE) develops mutually beneficial educational and research programs with international partners. We engage with academic institutions, government agencies and businesses alike.

We work with overseas universities and research enterprises to structure relationships that support our respective initiatives to help solve some of the world’s most pressing technological challenges. These partnerships can range from collaborations between individual departments to comprehensive, multidisciplinary programs addressing such broad areas as energy, health or urban infrastructure.

A GLOBE partnership can include any of the following elements:

  • Research collaboration: Your faculty and students work with Berkeley Engineering faculty and graduate students on projects of common interest.
  • Visiting student programs: Undergraduate or graduate students from your institution learn from Berkeley’s faculty and students while strengthening their understanding of the Bay Area’s innovative and entrepreneurial culture.
  • Curriculum development: Your professors collaborate with ours to adapt educational topics to your home institution’s curricula.
  • Distance education: Our programs supplement or enhance courses at your institution and enable your students to experience a Berkeley-style education.

Programs currently supported by GLOBE include the Shanghai Zhangjiang Berkeley Engineering Innovation (Z-BEI) Center and partnerships with Nanyang Technological University, ShanghaiTech University, Tongji University and Tsinghua University. We have also launched initiatives with the Republic of the Philippines and Brazil. Contact us to explore the development of a comprehensive partnership with Berkeley Engineering.
